Hey guys, im testing protonvpn premium, and it seems a lot of sites (Instagram, tiktok, facebook etc) blacklisted a lot of proton IPs even though im using the premium sub. it never happened to me before while using other VPNs.
The issue happening on many countries IPs ( US, UK,France,Germany). which is really annoying issue where you have to keep trying to connect to other IPs which are not blacklisted…
Yeah, that’s a sad truth about VPN usage these days. None of these sites want you using anything but your true IP to connect to them, so they block a lot of VPN IPs. I’ve had trouble with pretty much every VPN I’ve used and have just stopped using sites and services that block VPN traffic.
I have this too. I think the List of VPN IPs is on a database/list somewhere. I have 1 app & 2 sites that I use on the regular that block Proton. It’s a hassle to keep turning it on & off again to access it.
Why jack with ProtonVPN? Probably a measure of its’ effectiveness, or perhaps nuisance usage by hackers…
I’ve noticed various vpn blocks for years. Began seeing ProtonVPN [free] getting blocked by some websites for a year or so [have used ProtonVPN since beta].
A PITA to have to switch around. The same kind of vpn blockage is increasingly occurring with the Opera browser vpn too [which also allows limited switching of IPs].
The pickiest websites seem to be the most intrusive ones, so I’ll just drop them unless it’s an important one to me.
The whole concept of website intrusiveness and [usually incorrect] geolocation just irritates the hell out of me. It happens from both my PCs and phones.
Especially ones like HomeDepot, which insists on locating me in a Maine store [never been anywhere near Maine], make it almost impossible to switch to my actual location, and never retain the correct information. I’ve pretty much switched to Lowes.
I’ve never had problems on ANY social media with ProtonVPN for over 2 years now. Some will ask for an extra step, like a confirmation, but I’ve never been blocked or had to constantly change servers to find one that isn’t.
Secure Core simply adds another “middle hop” in the chain between you and your end point, but the server node from which you exit might also be used for single hops. It depends on how ProtonVPN structures this, which I’m not sure they share.
I frequently get presented with a captcha or error trying to access https://www.realclearpolitics.com and ProtonVPN (premium) is enabled. I never have any trouble if ProtonVPN is disabled. I do NOT get the problem 100% of the time but often enough that I know to expect trouble with that site.
I’m using an iPhone 12 pro max running iOS 15.3.1 and ProtonVPN client 3.0.1.
Doesn’t that negate your anonymity? They would be able to tie the traffic back to an AWS account owned by you. It might take two subpoenas instead of one, but it can be done.
webRTC and other things are already doing that along with pixel tracking. If you want to use a service that you don’t care that they know because say you’re paying for it and your VPN then it’s not a big deal. It’s also pretty easy to hide payment wise you just need an actual real-life proxy for that but prepay cards can be found anywhere or bought from other people pretty easily.
I also like other VPS providers like the ones in Mexico and various other countries, there are more and more that cost about the same now and you can set up a squid proxy pretty easy on most unix based distros.
