Wondering if anyone has a similar experience as me. I live in Mainland China and have a portal that despite trying to connect in various places and various different WiFi set ups at can not get it the device to connect to the Internet.
The only success I have is at my home where I run my WiFi into a UU VPN style thing that I use to play games online. (Honestly my understanding of all this is quite minimal).
Has anyone experienced anything similar? Is my portal useless outside of the house? It is a big shame because when I can get it to work, I really enjoy using it!
Very curious if anyone out there has had similar vibes to this! Many thanks
Heya, I’m glad to see your post because this is me as well. So my understanding is that no matter what I can’t get it working at home unless it’s through my UU box. I tried every possible combination. But with UU it’s perfect.
Outside - for this, make sure you’re using the UU app, on the main screen you’ll see at the top a left and right option toggle to right and this is where you can select things like UU connection through your phone hotspot (I use it for my switch when outside) select the portal from the list of availabile things.
Turn on your hotspot and in the portal set up manual connection using your hotspot details and the added DNS proxy settings from the UU hotspot tab after you select the portal from there. Connect connect and the portal will run. I’ve gotten it on data working on the subway and at the office on WiFi no problem by doing it like this.
It sounds confusing but the portal section on that WiFi tab in the UU app has the steps for you.
Hey there, I actually got mine over the weekend, and currently experiencing the same issues, but worst. - I dont have a wifi VPN at home, so I got the PS Portal and it’s been sitting at home.
I am considering getting a wifi VPN, but then again, the portal will be useless outside of the apartment. I live in Nanjing, but I travel to Shanghai most of the weekend. The idea was to use the portal during my 2 hour train ride.
hey, I am also living in China. I haven’t tried playstation remote yet, but i want to. So its only working when both devices are connected through UU, right? do you need to choose a specific “game” in the UU app or it doesnt matter?
Hello! I’m from Brazil but I’m in Shenzhen now. Trying to connect my Portal but couldn’t. Where can I get this UU VPN please? And if I install that on mobile, can I use it as a hotspot? Thanks!
dude, I bought a PS Portal Midnight Black 4 days ago, and can’t even get into wifi setting either.
I also currently living in China Mainland, I guess due to server block or whatever makes Portal cannot connect to wifi. So, I also bought Hyperev WIFI-6 Gaming router (so-called UU booster in China, exactly the same model, white rectangular modem)
I haven’t logged in yet cause I am work right now but yesterday the wifi speed was on fire. really fast. but you need personal data verification to use the UU booster app. I did passport verification. 2~3days required to verify my data, but when I woke up in the next morning, it was already verified.
The UU booster VPN has its own subscription service. Without subscription, the device just works as a wifi router (booster) not the device that helps you to use PS Portal in China. So, you have to pay extra money to get access to the subscription service. 1 year subscription was like 256 yuan which is almost like 35~40 dollars in the US.
So, I am on the same page like you, bro.
Simply say that “you cannot use PS Portal in China Mainland without UU Booster (Hyperev in US).”
Hi! Thank you for sharing this, I have been having my PS Portal for a month now, and love it. But I can’t make it to connect at all to my hotspot on my iPhone or from wifi outside my home. I am using the UU app, looking it up on Douyin, but can’t seem to make it work. Any suggestions?
Did you have to mess around with port forwarding? I’ve managed to get connected on a different WiFi at home, but I can’t get connected via mobile hot-spot, so I’m not sure if it’ll work away from home. I do have a UU box too.
Also have you tried cloud streaming? I can’t seem to get it to work at all.
Do you have the UU app and box for gaming? It’s annoying, but if you don’t you won’t be able to get the portal working in China. It’s bizarre that chinese internet services just seem to straight up block the portal from even connecting to wifi and internet networks. A vpn won’t help. Let me know if you need any advice or anything
When I’m playing at home, it’s only the remote that needs the UU. The console runs as normal with no worries…unless I’m wanting to play something like diablo or hell divers or anything else online. Offline games have never needed both to be on the uu.
You csn buy the UU accelerator in taobao ir any other shop online, you will need to install the app in your phone and can use your phone as a hotspot even outside of the house with 5G/4G.However connection laggs sometimes even at home with PSP connected via wifi
It’s hard to say not knowing your hotspot set up. One thing I can say is that the instructions for hotspot set up in the uu app are not great, because the screenshots show doing it with a switch and not the portals network settings screen. This section of the uu app really has everything you need for making sure the hotspot connection works, however you say you’re on iPhone. I’m on android but I can’t imagine the hotspotting would be all that different. Good luck though, hopefully you can get it working. Connecting the phone to WiFi and then turning on hotspot to link through the uu app and then the portal, it’s a pain in the arse but then I get stellar blade or destiny 2 at a coffee shop.
So, I didn’t need to do anything with port forwarding. At home, I connect through the UU box instead of trying to connect via my wifi, then select the portal on the app when it appears. With the hotspot, I go to the hotspot page on the app, which I’ll show below. Connect to a new internet connection on the portal the first time rather than search for the hotspot. Type in the password and hotspot name, but manually add the DNS port info and Proxy number from the UU app. Once it connects, you just activate the hotspot on the app by pressing the hotspot is online button, and it’ll go through. It’s a bit annoying the first couple of times because you need to work out the process but it is smooth once you figure it out… HOWEVER, UU recently released a dongle to plug into your phone that will take away needing the hotspot. You plug it in, and it acts like your UU box and will connect to your portal using your phone’s internet, whether you’re on 5g or wifi. It cost like 99rmb and was advertised in the UU app (I swear I don’t work for UU; I just have poor control of my money). Anyway, I bought that, and now I don’t need to use the hotspot at all when I play my portal using my phone as the connection.
As for streaming, I am struggling with it because it always says my internet isn’t good enough. My internet at home is maxed out, so I have to assume it’s the UU throttling things. I imagine if I was back home in the UK I wouldn’t have such problems. So I can run my ps5 through portal no problem but streaming has been so far not great.
