Remote Access with AirVPN

Hey, I’m using Windows 10, with AirVPN and an Actiontec MI424WR Rev I router and I can’t seem to figure out how to get remote access when the VPN is running. I’m not the most tech literate person and everything I’ve searched for online hasn’t worked so far. If somebody could help a brother out it’d be much appreciated.

I have used plex with airvpn before. In order to have remote access with the vpn on you need to forward the port plex is using through both your router and air vpn.

Within airvpn you can choose a port to forward. Find one that is not taken yet. Then make sure you forward that port on your router. Then go into plex remote access settings and set the manual port to the same as well.

The AirVPN forum has plenty of threads on port forwarding. Better to ask there as your quest would be the same for any service you want forwarded, not just Plex.

If you have Fios look at getting your own router. I crashed that router about 1/month at a minimum using plex dvr. Figure out how you want things to connect test it and then have Fios turn on the Ethernet port on your ONT. They will give you crap about your stuff not being compatible but it is ethernet and standard IPs. You can’t have a Fios DVR though without a lot of hoops. Most routers will allow you to set up a VPN on them so all your traffic goes through it.

That was way easier than I expected it to be. Thanks a lot.

You’re welcome, glad it worked!
