Basically the title. Is there a way to share the connection from my PC (running as client) to another device such as Xbox, PlayStation, other PC, etc.? Using iPhone as host
I’ve tried a couple things but either the connection doesn’t share, or PairVPN disconnects once another device is involved
Very easy to do… I actually as my main internet for all of my other devices outside of my gaming desktop. 2 phones(1 For Gaming Desktop & Another Connected To My Laptop For Everything Else Wifi/Wired).
When I used the iPhone to obtain WiFi to other devices was tether to PC then tether THAT connection to a router. Sharing internet within Windows OS sharing service didn’t work so what I did was…
1.) Tether iPhone to a spare laptop I have.
*If you plan on broadcasting the internet you plan on sharing via WiFi directly from laptop to other devices you have to use a wired tether or a PC with 2 different wireless antennas. If you want to tether from PC to router or hardwire one thing from the PC’s tethered connection you can use either wired tether or wireLESS.
2.) Set up PairVPN properly. When you set it up you will have a new network adapter within Windows that is labeled PairVPN. Remember me telling you about this network adapter.
3.) Download(You WILL Have To Pay For This Program For It To Be A “Set It & Forget It” Type Deal) & install Connectify Hotspot.
4.) Once you open Connectify Hotspot it will basically ask you what adapter you want to share internet FROM alongside what adapter you want to OUTPUT the internet connection to. Once you complete that select “Start Hotspot”. It will successfully share the internet connection to whatever adapter you chose to share the incoming connection TO.
What I personally do/did is hardwire a laptop I have to a router and set up the router like any other router… with an SSID, Password and security and what not. Then I hardwire tether my iPhone to the laptop via USB and PairVPN. Install Connectify Hotspot and set it up to use the PairVPN adapter as what I want to share then select my Ethernet Port as the output adapter. The laptop then shares the connection to the router after I hit “Start Hotspot”. You can connect your devices to the router like any other router and have WiFi without restrictions. I keep my cheapo slightly older laptop on 24/7 and it keeps connection for the most part. Rare disconnects. Works just like your standard Home Internet/WiFi does for me. No issues outside of it disconnecting every so often like PairVPN is just notorious for doing. Sorry for such a long post but I know if I didn’t go step-by-step and/or give how I personally do it people may blow me up with random questions and issues as to why it isn’t working for them.
Alright. It worked pretty well for me. I was able to finish a pretty big download on my PS5 not too long ago. What helps me is keeping the server awake and client visible the whole time. If you follow the video while something is connected to the desktop hotspot (from your network and internet settings), restart it and you should be good.
Hey, I’ve been trying to use PairVPN on my ps5 by using my iPhone as the server and my MacBook as the client, then internet sharing from the MacBook to my ps5… But as you mentioned before the pairvpn connection keeps getting lost on the MacBook.
I see in this thread you were able to solve this issue, any way you could provide me more details on how you fixed this issue? Greatly appreciated
Yes, but you can’t use use your phone as the server, pc as the client, and then do hotspot from the pc to an additional device. It either disconnects PairVPN or is still throttled speed as if PairVPN is no longer a factor
PS5 is the main thing I wanted this for so I’ll take your word. Maybe I did the steps out of order before and something went wonky. Keeping your phone active and the screen on is so annoying but it’s a small sacrifice
I restarted my computer and re did what was in the YouTube video to set the network adapter settings. No issues since. I’m on windows tho and don’t know anything about Mac
Y’know what’s funny? When PairVPN is on, I can’t download anything on my Switch. I’ve been trying to find out the issue for a few days, but nothing has worked so far.
Mac has a similar Wi-Fi sharing capability but from what I’ve tried so far it isn’t able to change the same network adapter settings, maybe that’s the problem. The PairVPN server stays on until I try to connect my Ps5, then it loses connection. Any tips on this possibly? u/JustSota
I had to look it up myself. From what I read, you may have to connect your Mac to the internet via ethernet and then share it. It says it frees up the wifi to broadcast rather than receive. It may be built in as a safety feature. Try tethering your phone and see what happens.
I did, but I think it’s due to how PairVPN works (I reread the faq after posting).
When you download something that way, the vpn’s download/upload will be much greater than the result. This, plus a throttled wifi card apparently, makes the switch time out when downloading a game, but not when online for anything else.
It recognizes it, but a direct connection is better.
