The VPN is trash on desktop

I’ve had to do some budgeting recently and I realized that instead of paying for an alternative VPN service I can use Google VPN since I have access to it.

I must say it’s been awful. At first, it was disconnecting and reconnecting every few minutes but then I got it to work by changing settings. Now I can barely keep the app from freezing.

On mobile, it’s been pretty solid, but having said that, I think I’m just going to spend the few additional dollars to get a solid reliable service.

I’m at the point in just going to uninstall it. So frustrating

No problems on macOS Ventura. It works reliable and is faster than my fastest Wireguard VPN server. However is uses twice the CPU (not as efficient with resources).

You should call support and open a ticket. The VPN does not work on Windows 11. My ticket still opened and it has been 2 months. Google doesn’t care obviously, but we should all open tickets. Their customer service is awful as always.

Also here no problems

I’ve also had problems with the VPN when it comes to tethering it to my torrent client. Otherwise, it’s been fine for daily use.

I didn’t like that you can’t choose specific location, can’t access streaming

I was about to make a similar post about issues with VPN by Google One on Windows (10).

For me webpage load times can get extremely slow at times. However when I test speeds through the Speedtest Windows app, they aren’t all that affected by the VPN so I’m scratching my head on why pages load so slow. Especially after waking my computer from sleep, even though the VPN reconnects, webpages sometimes even time out.

Like the OP, I don’t see this issue on mobile (phone or tablet).

I didn’t even know it could work on desktop.

Google One VPN does not work with torrenting.

It’s odd Google would have issues running a VPN. Most would consider Google a powerhouse it sucks that the VPN is struggling

I could be mistaken as I haven’t tried in a while, but I thought I had it working on windows 11

What issues are you seeing on windows 11? Besides the google one app showing as a black screen after I enable it, it seems to be working just fine on my Ally

my torrent client.

Naughty, that’s a paddling

how do you make sure that your torrent is using the vpn?

To be fair, it can’t lmao

I think if you torrent on mobile it works, but I wasn’t torrenting on desktop.

Microsoft is not Google’s friend. Google VPN on windows 11 works fine for me except…I can’t have it start automatically, and I must shut it down before shutting windows. Otherwise there’s no internet when I start windows again. The fix for that is to do a windows restart. Then I have to manually restart the VPN.

Depends on your torrent client, but there are certain ways to tether your torrent client so that it only connects to the internet while your VPN is simultaneously connected.

Did you get Google VPN to tether correctly?
