Hi, I recently moved to FL and would like to continue watching my local Baltimore area live channels. I just subscribed to PIA because they have a Baltimore server. I’m trying to use Hulu’s live TV service. I downloaded the PIA app on my phone and was able to select the Baltimore server, so that’s great. However I’m trying to set it up on my LG smart TV and I have to use the TV’s Internet browser to log into the PIA website. When I go to downloads and then other smart TVs it only lets me select the US general area under smart DNS. Am I missing something? I also have a PlayStation and thought about watching Hulu through that instead of the TV app but it looks like the same thing. Am I missing something? I’m new to VPN use so any help in plain commoner language would be appreciated. Thank you!
Just logging in to the PIA website on the smart TV won’t make it use the VPN. You need a native PIA app in the loop somewhere. For instance, I have a streaming box that runs Android and I can put the PIA app on that.
I’m not familiar enough with LG TVs to know if there’s an app you can download straight to that TV.
I’ve been trying to do something similar. In my case, I want to watch Seattle stations from the Midwest. When I connect to the Seattle PIA server, Hulu detects that I’m using a VPN and rejects my attempts to stream Seattle channels.
After reading through the PIA documentation, it appears that the only US servers that you’re likely to have success with for Hulu are us-west and us-east. If either of those exit PIA’s network in Baltimore, you’ll (probably) be able to use Hulu’s local station streaming. If you want any other city, you’re probably SOL.
Try connecting to us-east and use whatismyip.com to see what city your browser appears to be located in. If it’s anything other than Baltimore, you’re probably not going to be able to stream Baltimore stations through it.
Alternately, connect to the Baltimore server. Then try to use Hulu on your computer. Hulu will probably reject your connection because it detects the VPN.
Thank you, would a Roku box work?
Probably not. Just get a router with wire guard support to sign into PIA. Then connect all IOT devices, or any device to that router for vpn protection
I think so. It looks like there is a PIA Roku app.
