I’ve been using the free VPN. Mail Plus wouldn’t list the VPN if it wasn’t anything different than using the free VPN, right? Using the Linux VPN client, it still has me on as a free account. Thanks.
Mail Plus includes 1 VPN connection, which essentially means you can connect to ProtonVPN using one device at a time. This is different from the free VPN, which also allows a single connection but has limited servers and no advanced features like Secure Core or better speeds. With Mail Plus, the VPN connection acts as a bonus for email subscribers, though it’s not a full ProtonVPN Plus subscription. If you’re still listed as a free account on the Linux client, you might need to log out and log back in or check if your Mail Plus subscription is correctly linked to your Proton account.

Wrong. As a Mail Plus subscriber that’s exactly what you have: a free account on VPN and Pass (and also on Drive, except that you’ll have extra storage because your 15 GB are shared between your Proton account services).
Mail Plus gives you exactly what it says, premium Mail features. It doesn’t give you paid features of other premium products like VPN.
you subscribed to Mail Plus. This means you have a Proton email address and also access to additional free services in the Proton system, such as VPN “Free”, which allows you one VPN connection max at a time.
With the Proton VPN Free plan, you can access Proton VPN servers in five countries: the Netherlands, Japan, Romania, Poland and the US. Free users can only connect one device at a time.

note that if you want to add paid VPN services (10 VPN connections max at a time) when you already have your Mail Plus plan, you have to upgrade subscription from Mail Plus to Unlimited.
