US Server Loads

Hello! I’m in the US and was wondering, since I’m new to ProtonVPN, why does it keep connecting me to servers outside of my state area? I’m in Miami, but Proton’s auto connect will connect me lately to DC or TX. I’m assuming its because there’s a lot of people on the Miami and Atlanta servers? Or is there some way I can make it connect only to the Miami area? Thanks!

Proton’s Quick Connect automatically picks the server with the highest bandwidth to avoid server overcrowding (where too many Free users select the same server and cause speeds to go down). Data shows that most VPN users connect using Quick Connect, and quick connect is not random, but always based on fastest speeds and lowest latency. All the servers it connects to works (it will not connect to servers which are having issues).

It used to be that you could select a server that is the closest to your state so you can get a lower ping and a decent speed, but now everyone is forced to use a server that protons app chose for you.

I don’t get it either, I’m in the Gulf and keeps wanting to auto connect to ny or nj

How do you know if most users connect using Quick Connect if you don’t track your users?
