Edit: after some digging it quite literally says in the welcome PDF “show variety and availability may be limited due to geographical location, so a virtual private network (VPN) service is recommended to access U.S. programming”
So I assume it’s fine lol thank you to anyone who responded.
I just got internet set up at my house in Turkey and the Turkish dude who set it up said it’s a “big problem” if I use a VPN.
Is that factual or what? I can’t use discord without a VPN nor a lot of games are available without it. I tried googling it and it says VPNs are legal but I would like some clarification as a military member stationed here.
VPNs aren’t illegal, using them to access blocked sites is when problems can occur. In an effort to reduce traffic to these blocked sites, Turkey has also blocked most major VPN services. Discord is currently blocked in Turkey and would fall under that “illegal” umbrella.
Just in Turkey about a year again and they really started cracking down on VPNs. I showed up with Nord and had no issue connecting and about halfway through my tour only certain numbers could get you connected and then the last few months it was almost never connecting unless I kept trying for an hour straight. Made some school projects quite difficult as basic sites were blocked and all utility sights were blocked for paying bills.
Better to have a VPN though as the government owns the company used on base so they see all your non secured traffic and information
Swap to TCP to get your VPNs to work in Türkiye.
Discord is considered illegal in turkey? I’ve been using it in lodging for over a month with no issues. What do people use to play games then lol
Does NordVPN work in Turkey?
You need discord to play games?
Nord was all but useless once I left. Don’t waste your money
Well communicate with the people I’m playing with, yes.
Gotcha. Talk to your local comm guys and see what they know, chances are it’ll be a better answer than Reddit
