I used a Vpn and changed my location to Hungary to purchase a UFC fight at a much lower price. I had to use my credit card (no PayPal allowed) to purchase it. It was purchased through Google. Currently my credit card account says the payment is pending. Any chance I’ll end up getting charged the full price afterwards? Or would this be illegal on googles part? Might be a stupid question for this sub but I thought I’d give it a try
Edit: just a follow up incase anyone else was thinking about doing this, it worked 100%. I got a $60 fight for $7. My card was charged successfully so I’m guessing Google doesn’t give a shit about purchasing with a card that doesn’t have a billing address that matches the region of purchase.
I’ve bought games via GMG and Steam through a VPN to the US to avoid the Australia Tax, and got charged at the US rate (factoring in conversion rates). You should be fine mate
I do this all the time when buying flight tickets. Price varies for the same flight depending on where you buy it from. Highly recommended this for all of your future flight purchases.
I am located in Australia and the New Zealand Steam store is often a great amount cheaper, would I be risking my account & games changing region and just sticking with it?
I did the same thing, except i made my location Philippines. I don’t know how much it was from Hungry, but the Philippines was just over $19 USD for HD.
You can still have a US account and pay for things while overseas IRL, i see no reason for you to be charged the US price…and thanks for the idea, i might have to borrow it
A deal is a deal, of course it is legal. A lot of businesses do this. Car rental companies, even staples. Staples will look at your ip, figure out if there are competing stores nearby and price accordingly.
It varies. I’ll check out mine and leave it open then check the same flight in other cities, NY, Cali, Florida, Washington, DC, Mass and then smaller markets.
Aftwr that I check other countries. If you’re diligent you can usually save at least 100 bucks.
It is legal. There was a guy that started a site that searched the same flight though 1000s of IPs to get the lowest price. Airlines sued, he couldn’t afford to go through litigation so he closed the site from what I recall. But it is legal.
