Using VPN to download and play

Hey all,

I have posted before that my country (Lebanon) doesnt have access to the game so I cannot download it or play it.

Everyone told me to use a VPN and I will not get banned. Problem is I dont know how to use one cz I never had to.

Can you guys who do it assist me?

It’s best you do some reading on what vpns are and how to use them rather than ask on reddit, you will get less than the full information required on them from a place like this in most cases. In reality you can just buy a vpn(I don’t personally recommend free ones, but to each their own), download and install it, press the connect button, and be on your way to go. However I personally recommend against that and advise you to figure out what your doing before you do it.

I personally have used and been satisfied with WiiTopia, Speedify, and Private Internet Access(I prefer this one the most so far), you can decide what you want to use based on your own research and shouldn’t take my recommendations and bias as the answers to what you should get/use.

Instead of telling you to google it(honestly Aweza94 is right you really should just google it) I’ll leave you with a decent article to get you started on figuring it out before you just jump straight into it.

Good luck, and remember research and self initiative is your friend.

I would recommend Mudfish with subscription based which is around 0.89 USD per month with unlimited data but limited speed but enough for downloading the client and play online.

Do not use the pay-per-traffic option its much more expensive but faster speed.

If there was a website where you could ask questions and get similiar results to your topic

Yea thing is I ddnt answer that guy cz any one with decent brain capabilities uses google before anyone else. Thing is I am not a tech guy and I have 0 knowledge about internet stuff that’s why I came here so that someone can explain it to me in simpler words. So you recommend one of the paid ones? My problem on google is that most vpns have limited data of 500mbs though the game is 27 gbs lol. Thanks again mate any further help is appreciated.

I have a not so great connection already, usually my download speed on speedtest is 7mbps but when I download through steam I can download 700kb-1mbps. I tried a free vpn and could start the download but only at a rate of 100kbs which while take decades to download the game and I think will make the game hard to play. If i get that one you are talking about for 0.8 how much speed will i get?

oh wait, there is one. its google.com

Just another clarification because I have nothing going on. The limitation of 500mbs means 500mbps or megabits per second. That is the speed not the amount of data you can download. The game itself being 27 GB of data is not directly related to that number they are listing.

You can indeed use on of those services with the 500mbs limitation with no worry of having problems getting the game, its just going to take some time to actually get it downloaded is all as stated by bucking_horse and myself in later comments.

Hmm theres actually trial version for the Mudfish (Not really trial, they just credit you little amount of money into your account for the pay-per-traffic usage) you can try sign up and make use of the free credit to test the download speed.

As for the subscription based usage, it said the speed limited to 4 mbps, so your download speed probably will be same as your Steam downloading speed? My download speed when using Mudfish usually around 1.2 mbps, worst case scenario probably will takes you 1 or 2 day to fully download the game client.

Just putting it out there, bucking_horses recommendation of mudfish is much more in line with what you are wanting to do. The services I listed are better for somebody using it for multiple things, thus their higher price tags. I use my VPN(s) for several different reasons so in your case you honestly probably should avoid them for the price difference.

Mudfish reports the following for their speeds" 4 Mbps burst / 1 Mbps "That is directly taken from the payment portion of their website, so if you are getting 7 mbps from your isp then you won’t get the max speed on mudfish but even so you won’t on most vpns either.

Something to take into account on steam your likely getting 700KB - 1MBps not 700kb-mbps. Just to clarify as you said your not a tech person. there are MegaBytes and MegaBits and KiloBytes and KiloBits. There is 8 MegaBits in 1 Megabyte and 8 KiloBits in 1 KiloByte.

Steam tends to report in MegaBytes, KiloBytes, Or GigaBytes and not Bits. So on that note on steam you should be getting your maximum speed in theory.

For the sake of this information we are going to assume BDO is about 60 Gigabytes. I just want you aware with your connection you are going to be downloading it for about 16.67 Hours assuming you were at the highest speed possible on your current connection so just be ready to wait regardless of what method you choose, its a big friggin game.

Edit: Assuming you chose to use mudfish, if it was running at its burst speed the entire time you’d actually take almost double the time if not more. (33.34 Hours.)

Also assuming you were only using their 1 mbps(since it likely will not be the burst the entire time) you would end up taking even longer (133.34 Hours) and this is assuming perfect conditions. It’s going to take you days to download bdo on your connection no matter what service you choose.

If I were you I’d at least get the mudfish monthly plan so you can get started downloading assuming its fairly within your price range, they only appear to be charging by the month so their doesn’t look like your forced to stick with it if it sucks. But man you are going to have a hell of a wait time before you can even start playing so the sooner you get at least something working the better off you are.

Good luck.

Another thought before I go to sleep. If it’s possible for you to download it on your normal connection, for the sake of time and your sanity just download it normally then only use the vpn when you log in to play assuming its possible.

I know theirs probably region locks of some sort or w/e(I honestly wouldn’t know since I’m based in NA so its not a concern for me) but you should try anyway. If it refuses to let you download it without the vpn, try starting the download using the vpn, then turning off the vpn after its gotten started. Its possible and reasonable to think if you initially connect with a proper IP and then disconnect it should keep downloading and then you’d be at your maximum speed.

I often will be playing bdo or downloading one of the patches and turn on or off my vpn and about 4 out of 5 times it keeps me connected without any problems.

Again my dude, good luck.
