VPN and "Sportsnet+ is only supported in Canada"

Do any of you subscribe to Sportsnet to watch hockey in Canada?

I subscribed and largely I can watch the “out of market” games using a VPN spoofing a Canadian location, but twice now I’ve received the message “Sportsnet+ is only supported in Canada” and can’t watch. I am not sure if Sportsnet just sucks and giving me the error message randomly (I saw a thread on r/Telus where lots of people complaining of the same thing but not mentioning VPNs), or if it is my use of a VPN?

God I cannot stand our options for watching hockey in Canada. I am hoping this is a safe place to discuss how we can try to watch hockey.

Sportsnet+ premium has worked great for my brother with Apple TV. There was one night where we got that message but everyone did that night.

I noticed that it started doing it to me this season. It even occasionally logs me out when I don’t use a VPN saying I am out of Canada. I use NordVPN btw

I suspect SportsNet blocks known VPN IP addresses. If you’re in Canada why do you need a VPN for SportsNet+? I have SN+Premium and don’t get this message

Même chose pour moi sur sportnet Now avec un VPN de CyberGhost. J’ai chater avec CyberGhost pendant 1h et le problème ne viens pas de là. Est-ce que c’est ok maintenant. Je vais regarder ce soir avec le match du canadien

i get hockey from IP‍TV , from one calelled c‍a‍ctip‍u‍s, i get hockey, NFL and other sports, for cheaper, and works with just internet, look it up on google it’s free to test

So nobody else got that tonight?

Yeah, the first night I got it I don’t think it had to do with the VPN, I think it is just that they offer a terrible and flawed service. I ended up getting it to work with the VPN like halfway into that night.

But once it happened again tonight I was asking myself, is it actually possible this service is just this terrible, or is it related to the VPN.

I’ve basically never paid for any sort of television medium in my life, but decided to “splurge” this year because I heard the VPN thing isn’t an issue, but boy do I regret it. Back out to the high seas next year!

You can’t watch in market regional games on SN+ if they aren’t on SN. So tonight’s Leafs game was a TSN game and could only be watched on TSN if you live in the Leafs market. Outside of the Leafs market it was available on SN+.

You get blocked from the games for your local team if you are geographically close to them.

Yeah, I am thinking sportsnet has started to block proxies. I will not be buying sportsnet again next year, but I stupidly paid for the year right at the start. Argh. on hockey dot tv is getting me access to my game tonight, and bonus, no commercials.

I wasn’t over there tonight and they were out trick or treating so I couldn’t tell you.

I don’t use a VPN and watched the oilers game last night (I’m in Ontario) and it worked fine. I’ve never had any issues with it other than the cost.
