VPN for Aussies living overseas

Hi All,

Looking for assistance on which VPN is best for Aussie living overseas!

I’ve tried using Ghost, Proton, Nord VPN and all have failed to set my location in Australia.

I’m using these VPN to access my local bank (Ubank) and most importantly Kayo.

Does anyone have a working VPN for Kayo or Aussie bank in general?

Thanks in advance!

I use ExpressVPN from overseas and have no problem getting an endpoint in Australia for banking or anything else.

No recommendations but fwiw, I use UBank in the US without a VPN.

Edit: and NAB

all have failed to set my location in Australia.

What do you mean by this? Just using a VPN with an endpoint in Australia doesn’t guarantee that sites in Australia can’t find out you are using a VPN.

Maybe try Windscribe. They don’t have Australian servers… for free, but its actually pretty cheap. (Please don’t use a free VPN for banking stuff… please) If you select the custom plan, you can select Australian servers, and unlimited data if you really care for about $3 a month. As I said, I’m not sure about any other free VPNs you could use.

Have you tried Private Internet Access (PIA)?

I use Nord for a lot of things and it is fine. It will not change your Google app store though so if you need Aussie apps on android you need to search for an apk, then see if it will connect with or without vpn (no idea about apple apps).
Try a DNS solution for Aussie TV, has been a lot more successful for me than VPN.

I use TorGuard. Banking worked for me on the default plan, but I can’t say about Kayo. They offer a plan with an undetectable IP (I have this one, but for the UK for BBC). They may offer Australia as an option? There’s a 50% off code floating around as well, but it will set you back about $90 a year with an undetectable IP.

Most paid streaming services will block known vpn’s. It may work on some for a while but it could change anytime.

If you have friends/family in AU the best method is to setup a private VPN device on their home network so it shows up as local. Way more complex to setup though unless they are techy.

If you have a bit of time you can set up your own on a VPS service like vultr.

I used Nolog vpn while overseas and it worked for me.

Same. I’ve been with Express VPN and their service has been great. They aren’t the cheapest but you get what you pay for.

The OP is probably referring to an issue that :ubank is currently having where they’re blocking some international traffic.

Yeah you can do all your banking without a VPN, in my experience both iview and Optus shit themselves if they detect a VPN though.

Proton doesn’t offer free locations in Australia.

Because your Google account itself is set to a region. It can be changed but only once a year.

CBA blocks all access from Nigeria. So if you are there for business or pleasure, and want to bank online, you’ll need a VPN.

The only downside I’ve found is that they don’t unblock streaming services. More importantly they don’t keep any logs or details, whereas other services do. If you are with another service those logs can be requested or leaked.
