VPN usage in Linux Mint

I think I fixed my problem.

What I did was switch off my ISPs automatic DNS server and chose a free open source one for both my actual wifi and then my VPN connection.

Everything seems to be working now.

I do think I will switch to mullvad anyway though once my cyberghost account expires.

Innnnntttttteresting.

Okay that sounds good. I’ll keep this in mind when I’m ready to switch. I appreciate the good info.

Not doing anything malicious. I just don’t want to be tracked and my information sold if I can’t get a percentage of the profit

I think you might be right. My actual wifi had the ISP’s DNS but my VPN’s DNS is in another country.

How I fixed this issue was turning off my ISP’s DNS and changing it to a free open source and private DNS. Everything worked after that.

Living in China. A VPN router gives a semblance of normal internet on all devices at home, even devices that you can’t install VPN software on.

Always switch off your ISPs DNS server, they keep all the logs on what you do. But glad its working now!

Ah okay. Makes complete sense.

You think you’d still do that if you were in America or a different country?

Sounds good; thanks again.

Yes, now that I have a VPN router, I’ll always use one I think. If I lived elsewhere I’d still probably be behind a VPN 24/7.

Noted.

Did your ISP interfere with this process at all? If I got a router I could flash, do you think they would cut off my service temporarily?

My subscription doesn’t end till next year so it will be a while. For now everything works so I’m just not going to touch anything if I don’t need to lol. I made many mistakes today and thank God for timeshift.

No they didn’t, I don’t see why your ISP should interfere with it if they don’t actively block VPNs like in China.
I’ve had servers blocked before here and I either replace them or route the connection through another server using proxy chains.

Sounds good; thanks.
