What freebies do UCLA students have?

USC has free Lyfts by campus and HBO subscriptions. What are some freebies ucla has

We actually get a free Adobe creative cloud subscription but we have to sign up for it so that’s why no one really knows about it

we got free covid tests and uhhhhhhhhh

We actually used to have Uber and Lyft discounts. No more, though.

We do have our very own free streaming service, which is really cool. We also have a kickass library when it comes to nonfiction

SpectrumU means everyone gets free cable if you’re on campus

they can’t get free bruins, but we can get free Trojans

The UCLA VPN gives you access to the economist, the New York Times, and probably some other paywalled stuff

Not sure if it’s open now, but the Humanities Department has a room with an Oculus VR system. You can basically sign up to rent the room and record footage if you need it (for my situation, I was part of a video game-centric writing course), and I think people also use the room for podcasting.

We have kanopy, which has a lot of documentaries and movies. We have Hulu for 1.99$ a month. I got out of a moving violation ticket for being a Ucla student wearing my Ucla hoodie because the cop was a Ucla fan.

HBO and Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator!

Alum here with a very unpopular opinion:

Lots of educational, potentially job-placing passion-realizing software that absolutely no one utilizes

I have a passion for music and animation. Not one of those dreamboat passions, like ones that I work on tirelessly.

I could’ve gotten Unreal Engine for free. Luckily I discovered Ableton in the computer labs and took that advantage. I could’ve gotten lessons for free, instead of tiring it out on YouTube (which you still have to, but maybe with a jumpstart)

On top of that they have Lynda. Right now I’m using my mom’s employer’s seminars that provide Cloud training that is super industry pertinent & never taught in school. But I could’ve learned earlier on there

My good friend liked video-editing and photography. On the UCLA software suite, he could’ve gotten Adobe Lightroom full license for free. He didn’t

Tableau’s free, PowerBI I’m sure too. Check out all the free softwares they have — there are a lot

And the most important “free” resource, your faculty. Hound those people doing work in the field you want, however niche it is or close to the niche you want. And all of the seminars (IDRE for example — I went and have used those in interviews), all of the random events with major(!!) people coming on campus. There was a steaming wars event (very private) that I crashed

Otherwise, you may end up getting a middle-of-the-road (possibly well-paying but boring) job that does nothing innovative or self-actualizing and you work to die an irrelevant laborer or slum it to pay to do more. Sorry, morbid — but seriously, get all the shit in!

I like student debt jokes and “oh my campus sucks” jokes. But take it seriously; I’ll take free Unreal over all the paid Ubers & HBOMax for drunken nights with a TV show after

It’s a lot crappier than I remember haha so I recant half my enthusiasm. But there’s a lot of stuff still, plus you can use UCLA (any college) for lot of discounts externally

UCLA VPN gets you access to most scientific journals

1 free windows 10 (education) product key

You ever heard of breathing? Yeah, well we got that :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Bro they advertise free tampons but then shut the health building down before the quarter was over so I couldn’t get any. Rude.
