A very good afternoon all,
I hope you are well
What are the VPN options for me to show I am from the UK while i am actually abroad. The only barrier that I cannot have anything installed on my laptop. From doing some research I can attach a Raspberry Pi to my home server. The only issue is Raspberry Pi are very hard to come by due to the chip shortage. Any solutions or ideas will be super helpful
If you can’t install any software, you might consider a VPN router which is going to sit between your pc and the internet.
I know those exist, but don’t know a lot about them. Might be worth exploring.
I can see where you might run into problems because you’re setting up an extra router in line: internet → local router → vpn router → pc

Plenty of options available for delivery tomorrow through Monday.
If your employer has a termination clause for working abroad without permission then it stands to reason they’ll figure you out eventually.
I don’t want to rain on your parade but have you thought about asking them if you can work and nomad at the same time?
You might be able to negotiate a deal where you can nomad so long as you remain in the same time zone. Prove you can do it then negotiate further afield.
But speaking frankly as an employer, it’s never a good idea to try to cheat your way around workplace policy. We’ll find out - eventually.
You can get an AWS EC2 server in the UK and install a VPN server on it.
A VPN router as mentioned would be best. Especially if it is company laptop. That way you won’t have to install software. This company makes some that aren’t expensive. They also sell on Amazon. You can load with a number of VPN companies https://www.gl-inet.com/
I have a linksys WRT and you can put the VPN information right into the router config. It’s pretty simple. From there you’ll just have to purchase a subscription for a VPN service and you’re golden.
Thanks for that
The chip shortage is a pain. I see a Raspberry Pi 4 (4GB) for £79.55 which seems sky high,.
It’s not a threat, its truth. There are multiple clues IT can see which tell us someone is working outside of the country.
If you need that explained to you then you’re NGMI
