I have a website and I want to limit access to myself and my family. I’m thinking that I’ll set up a dedicated IP to connect to, whether it’s through OpenVPN or some other VPN service.
I don’t need the ability to connect all over the world, just a single dedicated IP address.
What’s the cheapest and most reliable/secure option?
You have a website where? In the cloud, in your home, or elsewhere? I don’t think VPN will have anything to do with a dedicated IP. And with services like Dynamic DNS (DDNS) you don’t need a fixed IP address in order to have a reachable domain name.
You can get a vps and set up your own vpn. Or share a vps with someone and a better server with same money.
If your data usage is not 50G per user per mont you can find as low as 2$ per mont per user
Your hosting provider will probably have different tiers of pricing, depending on how much traffic your site gets.
If it’s just you, and you access it a couple of dozen times per week that should be rather inexpensive. If you have a popular storefront with a shopping-cart system with a high demand on the database, you’re going to pay quite a bit more.
Expected traffic will most likely be the salient factor in determining price.
Cloudflare zero trust free plan if your self hosting is the best option. Can even setup application login and tunneling through it without port forward. Transfer your domain there and don’t need to worry about dedicated ips or anything.
