What VPN company would you recommend (for privacy/security, for using on many public WIFI networks)?

bonus if it can be used with netflix in uk + usa.

I was using norton hotspot, but they closed it and their ‘replacement’ that they offer, hotspot shield, is crap.

Most no logging VPNs will do. I strongly recommend not using the free VPNs.

Tor? Nobody recommending Tor? PIA is good. I’ve used them for two years without issue.

AirVPN or Mullvad.

People will suggest PIA, which might be OK. I don’t trust them (they’re US based. i just gave up on US after the Snowden revelations), but if that’s fine with you, whatever.

Yeah, i want to pay a reputable company  thats why i was with norton, at least they’re a big company. their vpn was good, and even though hotspot shield elite is run by anchor free (who ran norton’s vpn), their vpn sucks compared to the norton one. different ips, different software. hotspot shield connects a LOT faster though (almost instant).

but it injects javascript on every non https page, and any https page doesn’t go through their Vpn (not a major issue for me… but still…)

I don’t think you can get very good bandwidth with TOR. And since he wants to use Netflix, it’s not the best option.

I dont trust PIA they took my money, never sent account info and do not respond to support tickets.

I really hope you’re not suggesting overseas providers are more secure. the NSA could kidnap the owners and the families of AirVPN, hold a gun to their children’s heads, and force them to give up the keys to the kingdom.

If you’re really worried about an intelligence agency you shouldn’t be on a computer.

Newspapers and typewriters are your only chance.

ok will check them out

i’m not really bothered about things like if police/nsa/whatever can check logs. im sure every country is just as bad as each other.

Rotary dial telephone with an air gap is also reccomended.

Of course they can, but they can much more easily force PIA to comply with the law, instead of having to break the law by kidnapping someone, in the case of a foreign provider.

Not bothered by govts checking logs? What are you worried about then?

I bet the kidnappings is easier.

theres a big diff between people on the same wifi network reading what you’re doing, and having the government looking at your stuff.
