I don’t have a TikTok account and I don’t have the app. Yesterday I tried to visit TikTok.com with my VPN set to several different countries, and none of them would work.
I’m trying to understand how this could be, and all I can come up with is that Nord VPN doesn’t actually work the way it claims to. I thought the whole point was that websites think you’re in the area you set it to?
It should show the country of the server you connected to. Also it’s probably best to use a private/incognito window or a different browser while on VPN instead of the same one you use off VPN.
nord sucks. it doesn’t get around streaming georestrictions. all their ip ranges are blocked by major services. usually it does fool browsers, i’d have to know more info about the browser ur using and what settings u have to prognosticate why that’s happening, but imo nordvpn is not the vpn to use for getting around tiktok bans.
most vpns ip ranges will be blocked by major services like that in fact. the only real way to get around it, failing a vpn, would be to use TOR browser with properly configured connection settings.
Oops, you accidentally hit the “downvote” button on my comment instead of the “reply” button.
I’m actually aware what a VPN is – I have a paid subscription to NordVPN believe it or not. I wasn’t asking somebody to link me to a description of what a VPN was, I was asking somebody to help me understand why mine wasn’t seeming to function properly. If you don’t know, you could always say “I don’t know” or simply decline to answer.
This doesn’t help me understand any better; are you able to explain the relevant part to me? Doesn’t a VPN reroute and encrypt your traffic through a remote server, hiding your data?
Ahhh okay. Interesting. Weird move on their part. Isn’t that just a bad business model for them? Wouldn’t they want people to continue using their platform?
Many services doesn’t allow vpn. Steam, Instagram for ex. Mine Instagram account which I never use, never wrote anything or uploaded anything. Got banned last week when tried login while protonvpn was on. Only got mail about account was banned for breaking theirs rules. Since I never post or upload anything on that account so it must be vpn.
How am I to know when it’s working and when it’s not? No other website has ever required me to clear the cache – for example, if I set my VPN to Spain and go to Netflix.com, I get the shows that are available in Spain. So if the only way to tell if my data hasn’t been properly encrypted is to try to visit TikTok.com while it’s banned in the U.S., how do I know whether I need to clear my cache?
