Why is there so much misinformation about NordVPN on Reddit?

I keep seeing claims that Nord keep logs when they don’t? They done lots of security audit they don’t keep logs. Its getting really frustrating when I see the claims like that with nothing backing it up.

Your belief that they dont keep logs is entirely dependant upon Nord’s and the auditor’s claims, and not by verifying your self. If their claim is the only thing backing up your opinion, then I feel you are not that different from those that say Nord keep logs.
What if they change things while being audited or after? What if the auditor missed something? What if the data center or ISP Nord uses is compromised?
Dont get me wrong I mostly believe Nord’s no-log policy but not 100% blindly trusting it either. Frankly I dont see why one will be frustrated about people saying Nord keep logs. Its not going to change anything, whether they actually do keep logs or not.

It might be disinformation/noise to confuse people to be weary of companies that provide a modicum of data security and bypassing of interent censorship.

It doesn’t behoove governments, the intell community, corporations, etc for too many people to access information that doesn’t fit the prescribed narrative in mainstream media (ie. tiktok ban initiative) whilst being dificult to be tracked.

So discredting a major VPN provider (that also offers various other digital privacy services) is a logical tactic that I’d deploy if I wanted to mitigate the public from being able to do those things. You give them “a nudge” by instilling distrust in these services writ large. It’s the battle of hearts and minds. That’s the front line.

Research. Research. Research.

If misinformation was only on Reddit and it was only about NordVPN the World would ok. You still have millions of people believing that vaccines kills them.

NordVPN want to store your passwords, they want you to store your data on their servers. That to me is weird behaviour for a VPN service and doesn’t inspire trust.

My only tangible problems were the horrible constantly-changing UX, scummy business practices, and the ineffective mobile app. Maybe it’s better now. Wouldn’t trust anything they had to say about it though.

I mean its been verify many times. Also you can say that about all VPNs even Proton and Mullvad.

Where did you hear that? link? pretty sure they don’t store your data or passwords on their servers?

The mobile app is okay for me tbh.

The UI change is a bit annoying but I don’t care.

Aren’t they actually one of the few “big” ones that are Panama based meaning they don’t need to ever supply logs, which they don’t keep?

The mobile app Is the only thing that really works. The PC app keeps your CPU at 100% since ages. This bug was never solved. Just search around here.

They are constantly pushing their password manager and data storage services. For people that don’t want logs stored these are odd services to offer. Mullvad sound good, you can literally buy their service with cash.

a bit annoying

It was like at least once, twice a month I had to disregard my own muscle memory. And it would auto connect on launch after updating even when I asked it not to. THE BUTTON TO STOP CONNECTING WAS REMOVED SO I HAD TO WAIT PATIENTLY FOR IT TO CONNECT, THEN I COULD SELECT DISCONNECT. ARE YOU SURE YESSSSSSSS NORD.

I really liked how people bought into nerd for the vpn and they wouldn’t stop trying to shove their other products down your throat.

Huh. Must have flipped since I’ve used it. I mean, the desktop app was horrible and buggy, but I thought they ironed out all the bugs. When I used it, the mobile app would randomly disconnect without notifying you, and you could keep browsing even with killswitch on. I can’t imagine being more than a casual user, where privacy might actually be really important.

Do they still do that thing where you need to open a web browser to log in instead of just using the app like any other app? Horrible. And no amount of nord simps will be able to convince me that adding another point of failure to the mix is a good idea. I can’t fathom how it would be more secure either.

Who cares if you can pay with cash? It’s not illegal to purchase a VPN service, your ISP will know you’re using one no matter how you pay for it.

And having a separate password manager service had nothing to do with logging.

Random disconnections are often due to background Activity badly setted or not set at all. I switched tò surfshark years ago and never went back.

Yes the desktop app Is trash. With an amd 7800x3d It went full throttle at 80°C for absolutely no reason, and since this build Is 4 month old. Well, fuck off this crap honestly.

If they allow you to pay with cash then you know they are happy with allowing you to remain anonymous. NordVPN now get all shirty if you don’t have payment method permanently stored, the UI shows this as being like an error until you give them your card details to store permanently.

Nord are also very aggressive about storing LOGS on your PC (try to use methods to stop them - they have workarounds!!) so they can’t say truthfully that they don’t store any logs at all because they store logs and never delete old ones.

but you can still pay with crypto…

Is that crypto with a public ally available blockchain? Bitcoins blockchain keeps a record of all transactions. AKA crypto is pretty traceable, cash isn’t.

Tracing transactions still doesn’t put your name on it. Wallets are anonymous.
