I have installed WireGuard, duckduckgo browser und nextdns on my Android smartphone (Xiaomi poco x3 pro).
When I use wire guard and duckduckgo it often happens, that the vpn magically switches to off. Is this a bug or do I have wrong settings somewhere?
If you have more than one VPN, one might kick the other off.
Otherwise it was probably killed to save battery or free up ram. Either lock it in recent tasks or use another client that shows a ongoing notification (which you can stop it from appearing by disabling the notification channel).
TL;DR nothing to do with wireguard.
Ah, It seems that I’ve found the cause.
"Your VPN app may be disconnected
Android only allows one active VPN connection at a time. Enabling app tracking protection can cause all active VPNs on your device to be disconnected."
The question now is: Do I trust duckduckgo more or less than my own pihole configuration? Hmm, difficult to answer, I’m surely no expert in this.
Thank you very much for your answer.
So “VPN duckduckgo over VPN wireguard” seem not be possible, correct?
I have now set wireguard, duckduckgo and nextdns so that energy saving does not restrict these apps.
Better take a good, long hard look at the TOS/fine-print as they say. Usually when something related to tech is “free” that only means you are the actual product. Driving a service your privacy pays for…
“VPN duckduckgo over VPN wireguard”
I dont know what you mean. That could have multiple meanings.
- VPN inside VPN
- Start VPN and the new VPN killed the previous connections
Again, android only allows one VPN. You can use certain specialized apps to route different VPN to different endpoints by declaring a single VPN and handle the en/de-cryption.
I haven’t found any apps to do VPN inside VPN.
