What is the best VPN for iOS that doesn’t drop connection when on lock screen

Keep in mind that a recent study (don’t have the link handy) revealed that almost none of the free VPNs work at all and that many are malware.
What VPN drops when the display is slept? I haven’t had that issue with any I’ve tried. Those being, my employer’s VPN (uses Cisco AnyConnect), TunnelBear, and Overplay.
I’ve had the best luck with the openvpn app. The connection is very resilient – works through lock screen and switching between cell, wifi, and changing wifi access points when walking around at work. I use it everyday, and don’t remember the last time the vpn disconnected without me switching it off.
I use it with private internet access, but it likely works with any vpn provider that offers an openvpn type connection.

Does anyone here us SurfEasy VPN? It’s what I use but I never see it mentioned. Is there a problem with it I’m unaware of?

IPVanish has always served me well
astrill - using it in china - great performance, multiple devices - not exactly cheap though.
FreeVPN is the one I use. It’s free, fast, and doesn’t drop connection.

I’m keeping an eye on ProtonVPN. Currently no iOS app, but it’s in the works as well as a macOS version.
Didnt see it listed but i use ciscos umbrella service (was originally opendns). Works great and no drop issues. Also load their client on my x86 devices. Cost is $20/yr
