As a shaman player from the start, the part about nerfing SR to make mana matter is very good.
The idea of “mana battery” shamans like this is cool but it needs to come with some kind of tradeoff in damage or other utility. As the season has progressed it’s become abundantly clear that mana being a finite resource that must be managed is critical for making the game feel classic.
They will quite literally do anything possible except nerf Shamans to be less of a god class while also kicking the can of mana regen mechanics down the road until 60. Which will mean people will spend the 3 months of this phase being used to mass mana regen, then get to 60 and inevitably have it taken away or nerfed substantially and have to relearn it all over again for SoD runes/gameplay.
All of this because we can’t just nerf the common problem - Shaman.
This is a huge win. People complaining about a possible incoming mana nerf need to reserve judgment until we see the numbers pallys put out especially considering alliance can still clear the raid with their mana issues.
if it’s not raidwide it will be a pointless change. You’re griefing a ret paladin by grouping him with caster/healers compared to the melee buffing classes (feral, warrior, hunter etc). Horde doesn’t have this problem because you can always stick a shaman into any type of group
So Paladins have their fate sealed as nothing but this shitty ACP SoM meta forever, DS/SoC are dead entirely AND this “fix” doesn’t actually do a single fucking thing to improve Ret being the worst melee DPS spec on the charts, it just turns the spec into everyone elses mana battery. Unlike the devs beloved Shaman who get to be the infinite mana battery AND a top DPS.
The post itself doesn’t even try to hide this, it talks more about how casters need mana than it does about Ret itself. What the FUCK man
More utility for an extremely utility focused class is just lame af. We want big boinks and saucy crits. Instead we get to give everyone else more mana….ill stick with my rogue.
Finally. It was really awkward watching Horde healers get 4000+ mana for free from sham rage, while Alliance healers get very little from judgement of wisdom, if any.
As someone who only briefly played a rogue in 2019 classic, does anyone *like* mana management as a dps, when your only management options are doing less damage? As a healer I think mana constraints are important, but it feels arbitrarily punishing as a mana reliant dps, when doing your rotation (which often does less damage than many melee) leaves you oom.
You know the best part about this? Devs being forced to spend time fixing problems they created and the playerbase warned them about instead of investing that time into new and exciting things for SoD.
People are angry and rightfully so. SoD could have been great but instead it was some side project turned into one dev’s private server.
This is what people are angry about and why they are accusing the SoD dev team of inexperience and incompetency. These are valid complaints when a AAA company is at the helm, not some dude hiding out in a Russian bunker running a private server through multiple VPNs (and even then those servers are arguably better than SoD).
Sounds good to me. They’re saying all the right things here, woulda been nice to happen sooner and im curious how they plan to nerf mana regen but keep casters on pace w melee next phase…
Inb4 the shaman players come in “Whiny alliance waaaaah”
Even Aggrend recognized the issue. But they’re reassessing mana at 60 so this will be interesting. We will likely see nerfs to both on a % gain and rather just a flat amount.
“The mana return of Seal of Martyrdom has been comparatively quite modest since the launch of Season of Discovery”
Quite modest?
QUITE MODEST?!?
It has been literally unrecognizable and not even in the slightest a fucking factor, we’re talking like barely returning enough mana for a caster to use one more spell.
I appreciate talking to the community but don’t fucking say shit like this. Just own the fuck ups and address it. Stop talking out both sides of your mouth.
I’ll never understand the reason behind limiting caster dps through mana. Melee dps never have to worry about that shit and do significantly more damage lol.
