Last week, my sub came up from McAfee and I let it go. Damn, what a difference in machine performance. Not so much effect on Internet speeds, just general machine performance.
Windows Defender is good enough for basic use. Malwarebytes is much better and sits there quietly.
Since reading this thread I’ve become enlightened to a lot of issues my PC used to have that it doesn’t anymore since I stopped using Kaspersky and Norton. I miss the Adblock that came with Kaspersky but that’s about it.
Well BitDefender gives a ton of features and also doesn’t do this ![]()
On top of Windows Defender do you suggest anything else? Like Malwarebytes or anything else?
I use Windows Defender and then Malwarebytes as a secondary scanner.
Windows defender is not good enough
Hasn’t it been proven to basically be malware at this point?
Agreed, years ago when Norton and Symantec merged, I dumped them for McAfee. But now both of these antivirus eco systems have become so bloated and invasive, they basically ruin your PC experience. I now just run Windows Defender since reading about how it’s just effective.
I mean basically lol
I mean you wrote that like a 5 year old, but your overall point about it being a good AV is correct, theres a lot of shite being talked about it in the thread (the Russia thing is another question, but in terms of PC protection, it is still amongst the best).
I’ve never seen a popup from it, and here are the latest AV comparatives results:
