S.K is the closest thing to Cyberpunk 2077. A country completely ruled by powerful corporate families.

First they went for Twitch, then they went for Youtube.

I’ve been using YouTube Music for over 7 years, as far back as when it was still Google Play Music (:raised_fist:t2:)

The YouTube Premium add-on was the decididing factor for me vs Spotify or Apple Music which have no such amazing benefit.

I don’t see how you can provide ad-free YouTube without also doing YouTube Music; nearly every song on the latter is on the former in the form of a music video.

Google, just fucking leave korea like twitch

What kind of stupidity is that. Sorry you’re providing more value and it’s hurting competition?

Out of curiosity, how do they spin this to you all for anyone living there and fluent in the language and culture?

Like I absolutely get the protectionist angle to favor big SK businesses, but surely the self interest of the citizens is in getting a better deal on one of the largest international platforms. That seems like a tough spin when it’s that blatant.

Errm… sorry for being better?

Why would a company not be allowed to bundle their services together?

Just another attack on American business with a flimsy excuse. Surprised there isnt a euro style fine slapped on top of it all.

So they’re upset that YTP+YTM is too good of a value?

they should force a divestment from the US and a sell of the service to a local entity…

charge the same amount for youtube premium, unbundle, and make it such that youtube premium subscribers get access to youtube music for an additional 50 cents per month.

With how much youtubetv is in the US these days I’m somewhat surprised google hasn’t bundled youtube premium with it.

South Korea wants to double share for YouTube? Fine they should be the ones to fight against it. This isn’t a US problem. Our ftc operates differently from other countries anyways, we have different laws and core values

every country and economic region will be looking for its own interest, and it was a slippery slope to begin with.

Domestic streaming platforms? That sounds dumb as fuck.

Is this bad only when other countries do it to US but not when US does it

I still use Apple Music. The truth is there are only three to four real competitors in this space - they’ve formed a global monopoly. I feel no sadness for Alphabet Company. Even though I use several of their services daily - there is no competition to them.
