opened my computor today and notificaition popped up on the lock screen from mcafee saying i have 18 viruses from illegal adult websites and shit (which is bs cuz i havent visited any lmao).
when i clicked on the notif it brought me to a chrome tab, which did an insanely fast scan (like 50 times faster than my usual virus scan) and said i have 18 of them.
said that my “subscription”, conveniently “expired” yesterday and that i need to renew to make a 60 dollar subscription to clear the viruses. i installed avast one to check for viruses and it says im completely clear.
whats giong on here?
edit: it says my os might be infected (i have no mcafee application nor product)

It was a fake notification pretending to be Mcaffe. Blocking notifications from sites you don’t recognise in Chrome settings > privacy/security > site settings > notifications should fix it.
You could also look into installing uBlock Origin too, as you probaly enabled notifications from an ad pretending that you needed to for a captcha or similar, and uBlock Origin should block most of them.
Ad-scam.
You probably allowed notifications from a malicious website, which is now showing ads with fake McAfee messages asking for payment. You can ignore them and remove the permission in your browser.
P.S. Don’t use Avast.
This doesn’t sound like Mcafee to me, this sounds like you got a scam popup notification from your browser that led you to a fake mcafee page, close out of the page and run a scan with windows defender and also read the pinned malware guide. Check your browser for any unknown extensions too and notifications.
Stop using McAfee and uninstall it completely.
uninstall mcafee. (for real)
look at where do the pop ups come from, it might be popups from one of your browser (like chrome), you might have visited a page that asked you to allow notifications, to which you said yes, if it’s that, you can go search for the notifications in the parameters of your browser to stop them.
make a scan using windows defender, and if you want a second opinion, do a scan using malwarebytes (free version).
Do you even have McAffee products installed? The popup which led you to the Chrome Tab with the insanely fast scan and 18 viruses detected could be from other malware on your machine. Avast may possibly not find those. You could try Malwarebytes Antimalware and / or AdwCleaner to specifically scan for malware and have it removed.
Yeah, the virus is Mcafee.
mcafee says i have 18 viruses on my computor, but another antivirus said i have none
The other antivirus was obviously incorrect, since it missed McAfee.
McAfee is a virus and not to be trusted
Uninstall all “anti virus” programs from your computer, keep windows up to date and keep windows firewall up and dont visit or download files from scetchy sites and your computer will work better than with the anti virus programs. They’re all just scams that clog up your computer and make up threats to have a purpose! I’ve never owned an ati virus program and I have never had any problems with my pcs. Even less problems than the people I know who have had anti virus programs in fact!
You could try doing a scan with Malware Bytes. The McAfee pop-up is a scam. Check out Kitboga on YouTube regarding scams.
That’s actually a chrome popup ad. It’s a scam. This is why you should disable chrome pop ups by default. If you looke at the website it took you to I’m guessing the URL was some giant string of random numbers.
Mcafee is a virus, delete it, use only Microsoft defender and from time to time malwarebytes for normal home use
Windows security has the best antivirus. No other piece of pretentious software comes close. Just keep your real time protection on. And you’re good to go.
It’s mcscamfee being mcscamfee.
Avast antivirus is known to do a deep clean. Try it.
how do i run a scan with defender?
How? I have that shit locked into Windows 10 with Lenovo software.
